Four decades on the top of sport diplomacy
Dr. Tamás Ajan, one of the biggest Hungarian sport diplomats is still working with inexhaustible vitality and full of energy, his activity belies his age of 77 years old. He has been a leader of the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) since 1976, so exactly for four decades, having served as General Secretary before and then was elected as President in 2000. He wanted to be a medical doctor but due to political reasons he was impeded to become a surgeon. He got his degree at the University of Psychical Education and he started early to build his professional reputation. Among other positions in Hungary, he was serving as General Secretary of the Hungarian Weightlifting Federation and then of the Hungarian Olympic Committee. He has been also selected as Member of the International Olympic Committee. The internationally recognized sport diplomat is grateful for his wife in the first place for letting him to make such a career. In his civil life he is a father of two daughters and a son and a grandfather of two granddaughters.
